June: National Great Outdoors Month

Spring has sprung, and it’s a great time to get outside and have fun with your kids. Why not teach them a few things while you’re at it?

Outdoor play is important to your children’s intellectual, social, and physical development. It’s a great place for children to learn about the world through their own discovery and get the physical activity they need to stay healthy. Right outside your door, your child can find all sorts of natural objects that will encourage play and learning. Outdoor play naturally gives kids an opportunity for discovery and a sense of freedom.

There are endless learning opportunities to share with your kids outside. While playing in the sandbox pouring sand back and forth into different sized containers teaches about size, shape and volume. Playing with toys on the grass and in rocks can lead to discoveries about different textures, sounds and smells. The outdoors is the best place for children to meet and see up close the different critters that share our world.

Take a look at some of the activities below. Hopefully you will get inspired to spend sometime outdoors exploring and learning with your children.
