Girls Love Polly Pockets

Young parents might remember growing up with the original Polly Pocket - those very tiny, very micro, and very easy to lose little plastic dolls that came with hundreds of equally tiny accessories and lived in pocket sized homes that ranged from a cowboy themed restaurant to a glittering Cinderella castle. They may be surprised to learn that Polly Pocket is still very much around - in her newest and thankfully, larger self. The newest Polly Pockets are several inches high and, unlike their predecessors, feature real hair and removable clothing, shoes, and other accessories. And like her previous incarnation, this new line features hundreds of different accessories and play sets—ranging from shopping malls to doctor offices and beachside resorts, complete with a mini pool.

Polly Pockets make for excellent gifts for any little girl or boy who enjoys imaginative play with smaller dolls. Although parents might first cringe at the idea of purchasing a smaller doll for their child—after all, think of all the pieces that could be lost! And they might also be thinking of the original incarnation of this toy line, which was impossibly small and incredibly easy to misplace. However, because these dolls are several inches high, they are not as easy to lose and their accessories can easily be stored in small containers for safe keeping.

One of the key benefits of the size of this new line for parents is often overlooked: Because these dolls are small, they and their accessories are priced accordingly! A new Barbie doll might cost a parent at least twenty dollars, while a new Barbie fashion outfit pack might cost at least ten - and a Barbie doll house? At least one hundred dollars, if not more. Many parents whose children enjoy Barbie report that they can often only get one or two major accessories for the doll, which can be severely limiting to children who are looking for more interesting or exotic play sets to use. Because these dolls are smaller, their accessories - and their play sets - or smaller. Parents will likely be able to purchase more accessories and more play sets for their children, giving them a wider range of play and more rounded doll play experience.

Children love these dolls, too. Smaller dolls are traditionally favored because they allow for more realistic play than larger dolls, such as baby dolls. Baby dolls, for example, typically get used in “parent play,” when a child pretends to be a parent. Because these dolls have a smaller size ratio, children can easily pretend they are their own age - or teenagers, or young adults. These dolls can be babies, or they can be a teenager who is at the beach, or a doctor who is diagnosing their newest patient. The possibilities for play are nearly endless for children!

Parents and children alike will appreciate the small - but not too small - size of Polly Pocket, as well as their reasonable price range and their potential for hours and hours of fun and imaginative play.
